Strong final spurt: around 2.1 million guests at the 38th Maschsee Festival - despite
rainy start!
Despite the changeable weather in the first week, with an average of 16 degrees and repeated rain showers, the Maschseefest recorded around 780,000 visitors up to and including day 9 of 19 days - and was almost able to match the figures from the previous year thanks to the summer comeback.
In total, Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH (HVG) welcomed around 2.1 million visitors to the 38th Maschsee Festival over 19 days of events - a great result,
which is almost the same as the previous year (2.15 million). "We are very proud of this year, which was once again characterised by a high number of visitors and many innovations. My thanks go to the entire team, the catering operators and all partners who contributed to the success of the festival," says HVG Managing Director André Lawiszus.
The most popular days of the Maschseefest 2025 were the second Saturday with around 230,000 guests and the last Saturday with around 220,000 guests, as well as the two Fridays in the
second half of the festival with around 200,000 visitors each. The last two Thursdays were also remarkably busy this year: around 130,000 guests came on the half-time Thursday (7 August), while around 150,000 visitors flocked to the festival grounds on 14 August.
19 days culinary world tour on 20,000m²
On the north bank, guests were able to enjoy four exciting new additions: "Belmondo", "Mykonos", "Salento" and the "wine bar opposite". On the east bank
For the first time, the "Genuss-Geibel" including the "Adria Lounge" and "Ohana Beach" opened two new experience areas and the new "Aperitivo-Bay" on the west bank quickly met with a great response. "We are very satisfied with our first year on the east bank of the Maschsee Festival. It was a homogeneous, peaceful audience, we had many reservations and also numerous repeat guests. This shows us that the visitors were also satisfied and would like to come again. Of course, there are a few things that we will optimise next year," says Sascha Casado, operator of the "Ohana Beach".
Mario Hassa from "Supperclub34", which is located in the direct neighbourhood of "Ohana Beach" and has already been represented at the Maschseefest several times, also takes stock:
"You don't have to kid yourself - the first week wasn't great in the wet and cold. But as the festival progressed, it clearly showed its best side
shown." Andreas Kunze, operator of the "Mykonos" on the north bank, emphasises: "We are very proud to have been in the Champions League for the very first time. Of course, we already have ideas for improvements in mind in some areas - such as the organisation of the event or internally within the team. But overall, we are very satisfied."
Demir Cesar, who ran both the "Maschseequelle" on the south bank and the "Adria Lounge" at the "Genuss-Geibel" for the first time, also draws a positive conclusion for both
Locations: "The "Maschseequelle" has long since established itself for a certain clientele, and we are very happy about that. This year we even had to turn away guests due to overcrowding.
Overall, we are very happy and are already looking forward to next year. We are also planning infrastructural expansions that we are looking forward to. The "Adria Lounge" was definitely a gem. We were delighted to be able to design this special chill-out area with beanbags and a view of the lake."
19 days of open air - from cover bands and table quizzes to after-work and singles parties
Around 200 stage shows attracted guests to the lake. The programme highlights on the Maschsee stages included performances by the cover band "Munique", newcomer "Alyssa Melody", the shanty choir "Blaue Jungs", as well as performances by the "mit18-Band" and "Mind2Mode". A drone show by enercity provided a spectacular experience on the first Saturday of the festival: 300 drones took to the skies, forming glowing images and reflecting impressively on the surface of the water.
The "Queer Wednesday", the "Fish looking for a bike party" and the "NKR duck race" once again established themselves as crowd favourites this year. A special picture was also provided by the
traditional "torchlight swim" with 120 swimmers and numerous volunteers.
As usual, the "Maschseepiraten" set sail, and the children's meadow in front of the Heinz von Heiden Arena was also well attended.
The Maschseetower powered by Rossmann, which offered a panoramic view from a height of around 75 metres on the forecourt of the arena, was very popular.
"The variety of the festival is enormous - from the different acts to the offers for families. We are very happy about this, because there really is something for everyone.
This is exactly what makes the Maschsee Festival so special," says Lawiszus.
19 days - Safety, figures and data
Once again this year, St John Ambulance from the Hanover-Wasserturm local branch provided medical care for visitors to the Maschsee Festival. There were two
Accident assistance centres, three ambulances, an emergency ambulance, four foot patrols, a boat from the water rescue group and the emergency services from the psychosocial emergency care team (PSNV)
were available. With around 50 volunteers at the weekend and around ten during the week, St John Ambulance, supported by a group of volunteers, treated the injuries of the revellers. The PSNV volunteers were once again involved in the organiser's mindfulness concept. They not only looked after the emotional needs of the guests, but also
also took care of children or their relatives who got lost in the hustle and bustle. In total, Johanniter volunteered more than 3,000 hours at the Maschseefest 2025.
"Saferspaces App" once again successfully in use
The "Saferspaces App", which was first introduced in 2024, was used for the second time this year - as a central component of the mindfulness concept of the
HVG. To enable those affected to get help quickly and easily if necessary, around 100 QR codes were attached to light poles along the riverbank and stickers in the toilet areas.
attached. By scanning the codes, people seeking help were able to get in touch directly via the "Saferspaces App" and receive support. In addition, the Johanniter
hotline was also available as an additional point of contact. This ensured that people in critical situations could receive uncomplicated and direct help both digitally via the app and by telephone via the hotline.
It is pleasing that no significant incidents were recorded this year. The Hanover police are also very satisfied with how the Maschsee Festival went. The police only had to deal with minor offences such as simple assaults and thefts. "With around 189 simple offences such as assault or theft, which is not particularly high for the duration and number of guests, we are on the
We are therefore able to draw a positive balance," says Nurhan Özdemir, Head of Hanover Police Station. Lawiszus: "We would like to thank all Hanoverians for their patience in the
In terms of noise and traffic - 19 days are intense. At the same time, we are convinced that the Maschsee Festival strengthens the image of the Hannover Region and has an impact far beyond Lower Saxony."
