The „Graf Luckner“ shanty choir celebrated its 40th anniversary last year.
The choir was founded when some comrades from the Burgdorf naval comradeship wanted to sing the traditional songs of seafaring and thus preserve them.
A lot of emphasis was placed on the "shanties", i.e. work songs from the bygone days of sailing. In the meantime, a large repertoire has developed, which also includes many songs from more recent times and in several languages.
The shanty choir, which is recognised as an official ambassador for the town of Burgdorf, has already thrilled audiences in Belarus, Vienna, Prague, Holland and several places on the North Sea and Baltic coasts.
