Mindfulness measures

Mindfulness at the Maschsee Festival

Our mindfulness measures for safe and respectful interaction at the Maschsee Festival!

Mission statement of Hannover Verstanstaltungs GmbH (HVG)

At our events, whether at the Maschsee Festival, the International Fireworks Competition or the Glitterbox, people - some of them from all over the world - come together with different cultural backgrounds, ways of life and individual interests and needs. We greatly appreciate all our guests and the resulting diversity at each of our events.

However, the reality, even in the colourful world of events and leisure activities, is not always as tolerant and considerate as we as organisers think and live by our basic values. As a result, we endeavour to expressly oppose all injustices, border crossings and discrimination of any kind and to offer the best possible safe space during our events. As a rule, however, this can only be achieved through the respectful and helpful treatment of every person who attends our events.

We, the HVG team, warmly welcome everyone who wants to enjoy a good time with us in a positive and respectful atmosphere and be part of a peaceful event culture!

To support our mission statement and provide the best possible help in critical situations, this year we are working for the first time with the Saferspaces App together. In an expanded line-up, the St John on site with their PSNV team (psychosocial emergency care) for adults and children, which also serves as the interface (operator) for the app. Of course, all security staff are also generally available, but they can generally only be called in by St John Ambulance in the second instance with regard to all topics within the scope of our "Mindfulness Guidelines".

It is important to note that due to the large area of the Maschseefest (over 20,000m²) and the fact that we only have the right to use parts of the area, we are not able to cover all the paths around and on the Maschsee. An overview of where the posters and the Johanniter area of operation extend to can be found in the appendices.

Saferspaces App

"Saferspaces complements existing safety concepts with an approach that increases general well-being and actively promotes respectful coexistence. Based on the principle of being there when help is needed, the infrastructure is used in various contexts: discrimination, sexual assault, general incidents, abuse of power, escalation of violence and the reporting function."

The application not only ensures a better sense of well-being for visitors, it also contributes to a sustainable improvement in the security situation thanks to its innovative approach.

How does the app work?

Those affected must download the app not install beforehand. Through the Scan the QR code on the posters* and stickers* on display the person seeking help is connected directly to the staff responsible. In addition, the location is transmitted to the team via the identification point already stored. In principle, contact can be made completely anonymously; all non-personal data "When", "What type of incident" and "Where" is made available to the organiser to measure and evaluate the safety situation. When the app is scanned, the system language of the mobile device is recognised and the content is displayed appropriately in German or English.

Monday - Thursday: 14:00 to 01:00

Friday - Saturday: 14:00 to 02:00

Sunday: 11:00 am to 01:00 am

*The posters are linked to the existing numbering of the lanterns around the Maschsee and their location identification is based on the city's grid planning.

*To be found in the individual cubicles of the sanitary facilities.

The psychosocial support provided by the trained Johanniter can also be used, at the request of the person(s) affected, to refer them to contact centres such as the police, women's shelters, emergency accommodation, etc. in the event of an acute need.

As a general rule, every member of the St John Ambulance service will be available at all times at the Maschsee Festival and will provide assistance!

Catering & Showmen

In addition to the posters around the lake and the notices in the sanitary facilities, the associated catering outlets and showmen and women can also be contacted if they need help. For this purpose, additional posters are displayed in the catering stands, where the location must be entered if necessary. This is done by scanning the QR code and can be done using the respective grid position as part of the stand identification.
