Traffic information for the Maschsee Festival 2026
With the launch of the Maschsee Festival on 22 July and the event taking place at the same time 2026 Finals (23–26 July) there will be temporary traffic and access restrictions around Lake Maschsee and in the city centre.
We recommend that all visitors travel by public transport or by bike, as well as planning your journey well in advance.
The following information is based on the official road closure plan issued by the City of Hanover. To make it easier for you to get to the Maschseefest, we have summarised the key traffic measures and restrictions for you.
Arthur-Menge Embankment
The Arthur-Menge Embankment is from the 20 July to 11 August between the car park on Robert-Enke-Straße and Kurt-Schwitters-Platz is closed to motor vehicle traffic. The bus routes 100 and 200 are exempt from this ban.
During the set-up and dismantling periods (20–22 July and 10–11 August), cyclists will only be able to use the northern cycle path. During this time, bus routes 100 and 200 will not be able to travel along Arthur-Menge-Ufer.
Recommended alternative routes
The following diversions are recommended for Culemannstraße and Arthur-Menge-Ufer:
- Beuermannstraße or Bruchmeisterallee – Waterloostraße – Lavesallee – Friederikenplatz – Friedrichswall – Aegidientorplatz – Hildesheimer Straße
- Hildesheimer Straße – Aegidientorplatz – Friedrichswall/Friederikenplatz – Lavesallee – Am Schützenplatz – Bruchmeisterallee
Robert-Enke-Straße car park
The car park on Robert-Enke-Straße (96 car park) is from the 20 to 27 July blocked.
The Cycle route: Sportpark/Robert-Enke car park is from the 19 July to 12 August closed. A signposted diversion is in place via Beuermannstraße and Robert-Enke-Straße.
Rudolf-von-Bennigsen Embankment
Due to construction work and the competitions, the cycle route will be closed from 14 to 18 July as well as by the 27 to 30 JulyClosed just past Aspria Hannover. Cyclists can use the cycle path on the opposite side of the road during this time.
Cycle path along Lake Masch
A temporary cycle path will be set up during the Maschsee Festival.
The cycle path leading into the city runs along the carriageway on the east side of Rudolf-von-Bennigsen-Ufer, between Altenbekener Damm and Kurt-Schwitters-Platz. The usual cycle path directly alongside the Maschsee is closed during this period.
In addition, a temporary cycle path will be set up on Arthur-Menge-Ufer between the Courtyard Hotel and Kurt-Schwitters-Platz.
Car traffic
The Rudolf-von-Bennigsen-Ufer is from the 22 to 27 July Closed to traffic from Riepestraße onwards.
Western South City
In order to reduce the amount of traffic searching for parking spaces around the Maschsee, the area between the Maschsee and Hildesheimer Straße will be temporarily closed to through traffic.
Closing times:
- Wednesday & Thursday: 5.00 pm–8.00 pm
- Friday: 5.00 pm–10.00 pm
- Saturday: 5.00 pm–10.30 pm
During the first week of the Maschsee Festival (22–25 July) due to the finals taking place at the same time, road closures will begin as early as midday (depending on the day of the event, between 12:00 and 16:00). The manned barriers can only be passed through with a valid pass.
Impact on public transport
These events also affect ÜSTRA’s regular services.
- The bus stop Kröpcke is provided by the 13 to 31 July not driven to.
- During set-up and dismantling (20–22 July and 10–11 August), the following services will run 100 and 200 not via the Arthur-Menge Embankment.
- Connections to the light rail system are generally still available.
- The bus routes 100 and 200 serve the bus stops around Lake Maschsee „Maschsee/Sprengel Museum“, „Bruchmeisterallee“ and „Beuermannstraße“.
